Oceania shall be represented at the Bilbao Summit by the
Australian Local Government Association
Oceania already has direct representation at the II World Summit of Cities and Local Authorities on the Information Society, which will be held in Bilbao on the 9th – 11th November.
The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) will attend the event in the Basque capital at the end of this year on behalf of this continent. ALGA, which is a federation of states and local government associations, is the voice of more than 673 municipalities from the whole island.
Rick Molony, ALGA Director of Online Services, will participate in the Bilbao meeting with a report in which a practical case of the advantages of the application of new information technologies will be analysed. Molony will speak about how Internet is used by local authorities in Australia to achieve electronic integration of the rural areas and the most isolated areas of the country.
ALGA is governed by Paul Bell, who at the same time is president of the Local Government Association of Queensland and councillor for Emerald Shire in Queensland.
The Australian Local Government Association has also joined IT4ALL in June, the Internet platform through which the knowledge of 20,000 cities and regions from all over the planet is shared, representing more than 1,500 million citizens.
