The Region of Aquitaine (France) is to support Bilbao in the 2nd World Summit of Cities and Local Authorities
The five departments of Aquitaine are equipped with a local network for the development of the information society
The Region of Aquitaine, the area of the south of France which is closest to the Basque Country, has declared its support for Bilbao, which is preparing the 2nd World Summit of Cities and Local Authorities on the Information Society in November 2005. Aquitaine, which comprises five départements (Landes, Dordogne, Pyrenées Atlantiques, Gironde and Lot et Garonne), has maintained its firm commitment for years now to the development of the Information Society in its territories. The level of commitment is so high that the Regional Council of Aquitaine has set up its own regional office, Aquitaine Europe Communication (AEC), which is responsible for boosting information technologies. The Region of Aquitaine is a member of the Digital Solidarity Fund.
