The Basque Country joins the fight against the digital divide through the Solidarity Fund boosted by Senegal

The project, funded by two million euros, seeks to finance those activities which may generate new markets

The Basque Country announced the fact that it was joining the Digital Solidarity Fund at the Founding Congress of United Cities and Local Governments. This association is fighting to prevent the digital divide in the most disadvantaged areas of the planet whose levels of economic and social inequality will be accentuated in relation to more developed countries if they are unable to access information technologies. At the same time as the Basque Country was doing so, other cities and local authorities were announcing the fact they were joining this project in Paris. These were the cases of the French city of Lyon and the Swiss city of Geneva, in addition to the Italian province of Turin. The Digital Solidarity Fund is an initiative by the President of Senegal, Abdoulage Wade, and is funded by two million euros. This amount is used to finance those projects related to information technologies which may generate new activities for citizens from the area where the investment is made.
